Despite a lot of not so positive reports about Boca Chica in the Dominican Republic, I was pleasantly surprised by the beach, nightlife and the women in Boca Chica.

Boca Chica is located on the Caribbean coast (south) of the Dominican Republic, 15 minutes away from Las Americas Airport (Santo Domingo). It is just under 30 km to the capital of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo.

Boca Chica is a small holiday resort that is characterized by the beautiful beach in the south of the Dominican Republic. The nightlife is manageable, it mainly takes place on Calle Duarte, which runs parallel to the beach. Anyone expecting the nightlife of Pattaya or Angeles City will be disappointed. Boca Chica offers a Caribbean nightlife – small but nice, more for relaxation. The rum is cheap and the many girls present in the Duarte in the evening are fiery and cheap. Everyone gets their money’s worth – maybe not the absolute party types, even if there are two discos.

You can also order a car or motoconcho for short journeys through UBER.

Guaguas
Are small buses that go from the park in Boca Chica for 70 DOP to Santo Domingo (you need to change at the bus depot in Andres). There you can order an UBER to visit the Zona Colonial
There are also buses for 40 DOP to Juan Dolio (and on to San Pedro). The bus stop is opposite the petrol station on the motorway.

The beach itself is not that nice. Sometimes the sand is very hard and varies in width between 10 and 100 meters. A lot of sand has been removed in recent years. You can easily find a place on the beach either under a palm tree on your own towel and you can borrow a deck chair.

Day trips to Santo Domingo (Zona Colonial), the islands of Saona and Catalina and the “Salto de Limon” waterfalls are definitely recommended trips. These activities can be booked through local travel agencies.

A trip to the neighboring beach of Juan Dolio is also highly recommended. This can be organized on your own with UBER (approx. 500 Peso). The beach there is far more attractive than the beach in Boca Chica.

The best thing to do is to buy an Orange SIM card when you arrive at the airport. An orange shop is located in the arrivals’ area. Book an internet package of your choice. The staff usually set everything up. The SIM card costs 300 Peso plus the Internet package.

There is another orange shop in the Duarte. There is also a fair amount of English spoken there.
